Dear Valley Club:

I am a  100% disabled vet. Also a US Fulbright Fellow.
I lived in Philadelphia where I was treated after my medical discharge at
Pennsylvania Hospital. Later I graduated from University of Pennsylvania and
started graduate school at Temple. I was the director of PR with the Greater

I was so happy to see your brave defense of US white honor on NBC.
It’s organizations like yours which makes us proud to be Americans, Thank you.
After all it’s not the age of a terrorist that matters, but their color.

You are the kind of Americans who make my job so much easier. With a person like
our current president receiving so much publicity, we need people like you and
your membership to remind the world that America still knows how to keep the
unwashed minorities in their place. After all Lincoln, Roosevelt, Martin Luther King,
Jimmy Carter, liberals all, give us such a bad name. Thanks for showing the world the
real America. Thank god we white people know how to stick together.

Here’s a charming summer story out of Philadelphia: A private swim club kicked out some 60 summer camp kids out of their pool on the grounds that they were Black.

NBC reports: “The Creative Steps Day Camp paid more than $1900 to The Valley Swim Club. The Valley Swim Club is a private club that advertises open membership. But the campers’ first visit to the pool suggested otherwise.”

“When the minority children got in the pool all of the Caucasian children immediately exited the pool,” Horace Gibson, parent of a day camp child, wrote in an email. “The pool attendants came and told the black children that they did not allow minorities in the club and needed the children to leave immediately.”

One camper named Dymire Baylor told NBC: “I heard this lady, she was like, ‘Uh, what are all these black kids doing here?’ She’s like, ‘I’m scared they might do something to my child.’”

The most incredible part? The Valley Swim Club’s defense: “There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion … and the atmosphere of the club,” John Duesler, President of The Valley Swim Club said in a statement.

As if it needs saying, it is dumbfounding that in the Obama era such blatant bigotry continues to persist in this country. Sobering, outrageous, and sad.

and if our congress doesn’t face the scientific realities
of climate change [and  so-called peak oil] honestly
this year this summer,

Chris Hedges on the Falling Dollar
The American Empire Is Bankrupt” —

This week marks the end of the dollar’s reign as the world’s reserve currency.

It marks the start of a terrible period of economic and political decline in the United States.

And it signals the last gasp of the American imperium. That’s over. It is not coming back.

And what is to come will be very, very painful.

round midnight

our old acacia
sprouts some new green leaves
from its sawed off stump

midnight midmonth
no moon on our narrow street
midsummer

midnight breeze
delicate airs play
on our window chimes

no pajama top
he leans out his bedroom window
we gossip

before bed
i check the soil
my bonzai’s tiny new green leaves
